TAOP leaders were at the Capitol on March 26 to witness a major milestone for optometry in Tennessee, as the House of Representatives passed legislation to expand access to eye care by an overwhelming vote of 80–7.
With strong support already secured in the Senate, the legislation now moves to the Senate message calendar for reconciliation before heading to the Governor’s desk for final consideration.
This progress would not be possible without the leadership of the bill’s prime sponsors, Sen. Bo Watson and Rep. Ryan Williams, along with the 14 Senate co-sponsors, 47 House co-sponsors, and the many members of the General Assembly who supported this effort. We are deeply grateful for their commitment to improving access to care for patients across Tennessee.
We also extend a sincere thank you to all TAOP members who participated in our Day on the Hill events. Your advocacy, engagement, and dedication played a vital role in advancing this legislation and strengthening the voice of optometry across our state.
